Tamo Jugeli - Unnamed 2020

7 August - 20 September, 2020

Gallery Artbeat, 14, Pavle Ingorokva str., Tbilisi, Georgia

Gallery Artbeat presents ‘Unnamed 2020', a solo exhibition by Tamo Jugeli.

The title ‘Unnamed' is an attempt to mark new perspectives and uninhabited territories, where by decomposition of linguistic and figurative liaisons, forms are freed from their content and cultural-normative frames. Instead a potential for new impressions, ideas and feelings is created.

Paintings of Tamo Jugeli carry traces of unconscious impulses by its linear as well as color factures. An intuitive flow composed of simple elements of figures, colors and forms create complex and dynamic networks, which sometimes are transformed into shapes and sometimes are broken into abstractive signs. Each element stands on the frontier of a figurative or a plane deconstruction. Visual signs establish sculptural, fluid, spatial dimensions and attain their autonomy. We are witnesses to a game between transgration and sublimation, between the rational and the irrational.

Presented artworks, which have their own scale, space and limitless desire to break the boundaries can easily be read as topographic maps of brisk and irrational motion.

Tamo Jugeli is a young, Georgian emerging artist born in 1994. During 2013-2017 she studied Journalism at David Aghmashenebeli University of Georgia and only started painting after. Soon she became mentored by internationally renowned artist and writer, Gia Edzgveradze.

Jugeli acknowledges her main aim in creativity to be adapting and expressing in visual arts Helene Cixous’ concept – ‘L’ecriture feminine', unified space/spirit of feminine new vitality expressed in her paintings; where geometric forms and figures representing meta-physics are merging into exploding variety of twisted spaces, many planes in different perspectives and numerous emotional layers. Her large mixed media canvases but also round and oval shaped smaller formats are a good visualisation of her practice’s main aim.
