Presented artist Tamar Botchorishvili
Artbeat is proud to present Tamar Botchorishvili's solo exhibition, where her artistic practice revolves around the integration of diverse art mediums. The exhibited pieces manifest as turbulent embodiments of our contemporary societal body, crafted using synthetic clay and upcycled toy fragments. The artist skillfully captures the interplay of gender, sexuality, politics, power dynamics, dominance, and subordination, all of which contribute to the perpetual flux within our bodily structures and fabric. Through her creations, Bochorishvili presents a multifaceted exploration of these themes in varying forms.
The mixed media work on paper comprises two distinct compositions, each reflecting the artist's exploration of personal introspection and the nature of embarking on an unknown journey. The central focus is the female figure, which embodies both the artist's self-reflection and the universal representation of an individual moving away from the familiar comforts of home. The paintings convey a sense of nostalgia and evoke memories of sweeter days through refined lines and warm colors. This contrast with the aggressive act of arson, symbolizing the burning down of one's own house and the subsequent embrace of the unknown—the new. The decision to venture into the unknown invites the viewer to contemplate their own transformative future.
Tamar Botchorishvili’s artworks represent an attempt of self-reflexion and self-understanding. Graphic drawings and objects created by combination of different materials and techniques tell the story of past experiences, drama and unexpected future.
Artworks include small-sized sculptures and drawings. On the one hand, these artworks represent cheerfulness and a playful (toy like) aesthetics but on the other hand, they express topics like: family and society, body and sexuality, death and subconscious.
The works take form from personal and collective experiences and are changing according to the meaning of different narratives. They speak about fundamental issues that dominate on all levels of society and transform dramatic contexts into cheerful playing forms.
