Project ArtBeat and TBC Status present a solo exhibition - SAVANNA SAVAGE* by Gvantsa Jishkariani.

“I’ve been thinking about randomness a lot lately. Why we love to ignore or regret that much of what we see in life is random, why we tend to look for explanations, concepts, meanings and why there is no country for intuitive actions or for accidents.

These photos are neither planned, nor expected, they are accidental - nothing in between. I have never edited them. Even though photos are random and images are not planned or edited - they follow time: if put together in a row, they create one, endless image, timeline. Photos are half-transparent and the whole image is visible only from distance; like most of things in life: one needs to take a step back to analyze the happenings. I am taking this step back to look at my art, which made a big turn last year when I started using photos in my installations.

Gvantsa Jishkariani (b. 1991, Rustavi, Georgia). 

After studying at Tbilisi State Academy of Art (BA in Architecture), she gained an Informal MA in Inclusive Mediation at Center of Contemporary Art – Tbilisi. In 2014 she, with ten other female artists founded art group "New Collective".

Gvantsa Jishkariani is an artist whose primary medium is installation. Her work addresses first and foremost the temporary nature of the paradox that arises when searching for concrete definitions of right and wrong, old and new, art and design. Through her installations, videos and sculptures she takes traditional notions of cultural identity, ancient views, and paradoxical association of ideas and plays with them.

Gvantsa’s art is inspired by serendipity and intuition. She starts each work with preconceived composition and idea, but mostly without preliminary sketches. She wonders how traditions, modern superstitions and surrounding kitschy images influence on everyday life; how emotions, memories, views, personality and the sentimental value of the object is created.

The project is realized in the framework of Black Sea Jazz Festival with the support of Children and Youth Development Fund and TBC Status.
